After that there was no looking back and executed orders for recovery breakdown van, bulk petroleum carrier, air craft refuller, water tankers, dumper placer, water cannon etc. for Government Organisations and PSUs sectors. When I joined the business in 1987. My first impression was that the market was changing rapidly and it is imperative to focus on innovative strategies.

I made the momentous decision to introduce state of art technology in the manufacturing of fire tenders. This was a landmark decision which paved the way for other innovations. The company was renamed as “United Manufacturing Company”. We have pan India presence and have been working with fire departments, PSUs, Defence and so on. We are happy to state that “United Manufacturing Company” has earned an unenviable reputation for its quality products with a widespread satisfied customer base.

Q. What growth do you expect for the fire industry in 2 years from now?

I expect that fire industry will grow by say around 50-60%. Lot of changes are coming in the country. We hope that positive business environment will lead to FDI which in turn will generate increased demand in the fire safety business.

Q. What would you like to say to the readers on the occasion of new year?

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL. Buy Quality products with committed after sales services. This New Year should be complimented with fire safety education to the new generation. I would like to urge competent authorities and policy makers that they should plan out of implementing fire safety training in schools to cope
up with the disaster of fire more effectively.

Making of United Manufacturing Company

The foundation of United Manufacturing Company was laid by two promising entrepreneurs, namely, Late Mr. Hazur Singh and Late Mr. Amarjeet Singh in the year of 1968. The company initially began with the manufacture of loom and auto parts. A humble beginning which was a trail blazer carved a path of future glory for the company.

The founders of the company were visionary and avant-garde who had envisaged that the future lay in industrialized India of tomorrow. In the year of 1978 company first ventured into the business of fire safety which would ultimately be its destiny. Having complete faith in their ability to compete with the best and bestowed with strong will and expertise, the duo diversified into a business which was destined to catapult the company to new heights. It is said that the longest journey starts with a small step. Likewise, the first order, though small, which was awarded by “DFS” was successfully executed. Thereafter, no one could stop the rapid rise of the company which has won innumerable laurels and recognitions.

United Manufacturing Company (UMC) has now become synonymous with Innovative skills, expertise and competent leadership. The company gradually started earning an unenviable reputation for quality and workmanship of its products. The entrepreneurial spirit, inculcated by the founding fathers, has been the company’s inspiration throughout its journey. Going down the years gone by, UMC takes pride in having executed voluminous orders for recovery breakdown vans, bulk petroleum carriers, air craft re-fullers, water tankers, dumper placers, water cannons and many more for Government organisations and PSUs sector. The company has grown at a gruelling pace, riding on the hard work and calculated risks taken by the promoters. The visionary innovative spirit still pervades the corridors and drawing boards of the company.

Mr. Gurpreet Singh, the next generation entrepreneur added strength by joining the business in 1987. Mr. Singh immediately sensed that time was changing fast and only those who innovate can survive. He could feel the mood and pulse of the business in the country. Mr. Singh, a visionary with a mission took little time in realising that a big makeover was needed to stand out from the mushrooming companies. By this time the company was renamed to “United Manufacturing Company” (UMC).

Mr. Singh was quick to read the changing environment in which clients were more demanding and challenges could be met only by remaining in touch with the industry’s requirements. Professional fire-fighters needed equipment which did not have any limitations. The age of technology had dawned and rapid changes posed a big challenge to the manufacturer. Mr. Singh realised the need to innovate and remain a step ahead of the times. With years of experience and a zeal to deliver the best, he made it his top priority to equip his company with state of art technology machines to deliver the best quality.

The first step taken in this direction by Mr. Singh was to invest heavily in technologically advanced equipment, implements, tools and machinery in order to secure the quality assurance for his products. The company’s tool room was equipped with technologically advanced machines. In fact, the Tool room of UMC is equipped with 10 machines for fabrication which, according to us, no one else has in India. We are among the few to use technically advanced magnetic welding as an assurance of quality. Now, with the advent of new technology which is available, we are switching to latest “3M Tape Technology”. The company strives to implement and match the international standards. Our motto is to exceed expectations.

“UMC” is now ISO9001:2008 certified company which strictly follows and implements the set guidelines to ensure quality production. “UMC” expanded the business horizons by venturing with Oshkosh, USA and has included the portfolio of rescue tools in the repertoire of the company. UMC has joined hands with “RESQTEC”, Netherlands for the range of international standard rescue tools. Other companies are also being sounded for technical collaboration.

UMC has expanded its operations manifold under the competent leadership of Mr. Singh. The company has strong pan India presence serving fire departments, PSUs, Defence and so on. “United Manufacturing Company” has earned a reputation for its quality products with satisfied customer base. Our name rings a bell in every nook and corner of the country. Besides, “UMC” has marked its presence in international market as well. They are supplying their products to Bhutan, Nepal and Africa. We expect to have our footprints in many more countries soon.

UMC has grown at a phenomenal rate and the blistering pace has made the company strong and resilient. When asked about the dream project his company likes to work on Mr. Singh unequivocally replied “I want to set up one stop rendezvous manufacturing facility for the fire tender. This will make product more viable both quality and economy wise.”

The journey which was begun in 1968 by two visionaries has now entered a new phase and orbit. The company’s products have changed with the demands but not the will to innovate, strategize and excel. The baton is now in the hands of Mr. Singh, under whose strong leadership UMC can proudly say that “Sky is the limit”.
